1. Can the RV inverter charge the battery?
The general RV inverter only has the function of converting DC to AC, while the battery uses DC, which means the inverter can only discharge the battery and cannot charge the lithium battery; while the charge inverter integrated inverter comes with the charging function, which can charge the battery, and it can convert the AC generated by the generator to DC, which can be used to charge the battery.
2. Why use RV inverter?
RV batteries are generally 12V DC, which can only power small appliances like lights, while high-power appliances like air conditioners and rice cookers need to use 120V AC, so they need to be converted using an RV inverter. In order to provide AC power to the appliances we have to use an inverter.
3. How to choose the right RV inverter?
Power
First of all you need to know the power of the appliances in your RV and consider their total power to determine the choice of RV inverter, make sure to buy an inverter with slightly more power due to the loss of power during the conversion process. For example, if your appliances have a total power of 2000W, you need to consider buying a caravan inverter that is larger than 2000W to ensure that the caravan inverter can handle it even when they are working together, but not so much larger that it will waste power.
Conversion efficiency
Inverter conversion efficiency refers to the ratio of the inverter’s output power to the input motive power, usually expressed as a percentage. The inverter also loses some of its power during operation, for example a caravan inverter with an input of 100W outputs 80W of current, so its conversion efficiency is 80%, the larger this figure is, the less power the caravan inverter loses and the more efficient it is.
Consider battery and inverter voltage
The voltage of the battery should be matched to the inverter, for example a 50V battery should use a 50V inverter.
Pure Sine Wave and Modified Sine Wave
Pure sine wave inverters provide a cleaner and smoother current and are more expensive, whereas corrected sine wave inverters are cheaper but not suitable for highly sophisticated electronic equipment such as microwave ovens, compressors etc.
4. How else can I charge my caravan battery?
Solar Charging
If you have solar panels installed on the roof of your caravan, you can charge your batteries anytime, anywhere, except that the power generated is different on sunny and cloudy days, and your solar panels can charge your caravan while you are driving.
Utility Charging
The RV will be equipped with a special charging cable, and you can connect the power supply directly to the RV, as it directly converts AC power to DC power to charge the RV directly.
Using an RV converter and generator for power
Generally, the RV will come with an on-board generator, but this generator can only power cell phones and the dashboard in the cab, it can’t power the high-power appliances in the RV, we can use an RV converter to convert the AC power generated by the generator to DC power, thus powering the battery.
