What is a battery monitor?
The Battery Monitor is a battery power meter that provides the state of charge of the battery system and displays the remaining charge of the battery system. The Battery Monitor collects and displays valuable information such as: battery voltage, power consumption, estimated remaining runtime, current consumption, and battery temperature, and provides an assessment of the battery’s health as well as an early warning function. With this data the battery management system can make better decisions on how to optimize the performance and better use of the battery.

How does a battery monitor work?
(1) Voltage type monitors measure the real-time voltage of the battery to estimate the state of charge of the battery. Since the real-time voltage of the battery fluctuates according to temperature changes and other environmental conditions, the data may not be very accurate. If the battery type is changed, the voltmeter may not be accurate at all.
(2) A shunt type monitor is more accurate compared to a voltage type monitor. It measures the actual energy flowing into and out of the battery. The use of this type of monitor requires the installation of a shunt on the negative side of the battery terminals, which monitors the real-time voltage of the battery system as well as the current consumption.
These measurements allow calculation of the state of charge, power consumption, estimated remaining runtime, and other information about the battery.
Battery Management System (BMS)
The BMS is the control center for the individual batteries in the system. The most basic function of the BMS is to monitor and manage the status of the batteries to ensure that they operate under safe, efficient and long-life conditions.
Advantages of lithium batteries in the battery monitor
Lithium batteries have an integrated battery management system, which has advantages in helping to optimize their performance.
The lithium battery management system has core functions such as voltage monitoring, estimation of charge state, safety protection, etc. It is able to monitor and control the charging and discharging process of the battery according to the usage environment, which in turn ensures that the stored energy of the battery is utilized to the maximum extent possible under the premise of safety. It also improves the efficiency and life of the battery.
When an unsafe condition is detected, the BMS will shut down the battery to protect the battery and the user.
Lithium batteries do not show a significant voltage drop when they are about to be depleted, as lead-acid batteries do, to warn you of a low charge until the battery is depleted by the BMS shutting them down. However, if a battery monitor is installed, a warning of battery depletion can be issued to ensure the performance of the battery.
Why do you need a battery monitor too?
Experience has found that a battery monitor is essential for keeping your power supply safe and healthy. It provides real-time monitoring of your battery’s operating status, regularly monitors the health and lifespan of your battery, and can notify you in time to pay attention to the battery’s operating status. Both for the convenience of our life, and life safety provides a strong guarantee.
